today, i received a call from a mother, who had recently lost her son in afghanistan. she was calling me, because we met in february, before he left, for a photo shoot with his wife & new son. these are the last photographs he had made. we both cried, & i realized even more how important photographs truly are in that instance. i always knew, but hearing a mother's relief that those last memories exist made everything i do worthwhile.
Thank you to all the service men & women for doing what you do every single day. Please come home soon.

Brooke Dever - What a very special honor. So glad you got to capture these. Life is certainly too short and way unexpected.

Kate - What a handsome guy, and such a sad story. My heart goes out to his family, his wife and child. What a truly great (and lasting) gift you gave them! His smile will live in those photographs for a long, long time.

Wendy - I know they will cherish those photos forever. Life always tends to put things in perspective for us. Beautiful work!
